The word "cherish" is the English
word that is most closely translated in the original language of
the Bible to express the following: "We were gentle among you like
a mother caring (cherish) for her little children." (1Thes. 2:7)
The lamb is a beautiful symbol of a baby, a child, a young woman,
one who has been abandoned, purity, and gentleness.
The lamb is used in the Bible to
describe:
- the innocent and the helpless
- the recipient of tender love
and protection from the Shepherd
- the one sent out into a
dangerous world
- those who have gone astray
- God's people
- Jesus as The Lamb
- purity
- gentleness
- sacrificial love
- giving without complaint
- the confirming of an agreement
And interestingly, the lamb was
the first image placed on coins in the Old Testament.
